When I was growing up, I was fascinated with journalism and the world it covered. After receiving my BA in Political Science from Columbia and my MS in Journalism from Northwestern, I got out my reporter’s notebook and became a broadcast journalist. My work has been honored with the most prestigious awards in broadcast journalism: the DuPont-Columbia, Emmy and Peabody awards. My journalism skills are especially useful in essay reviews and interview preparation for colleges.
Following my journalism career, I started Andrew Greenspan & Associates which consulted with more than thirty college admissions and development offices and gave me a fresh perspective on the admissions process. I worked with deans of admissions to understand their needs and to craft messages which reflected them. My work was honored with 19 awards from the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education.
While working as an alumni admissions interviewer for Columbia, I gained yet another perspective of the college admissions process. That whetted my appetite to know more and to do more in the world of college admissions. I joined International College Counselors as a Director of College Advising. My students have been from a wide variety of places, from St. Louis, London and Houston and from Qauito, Ecuador, New York City and Lincoln, Nebraska.
At Greenspan College Counseling, I continue to work with students throughout the world to help them navigate the complex college admissions process. The process can begin as early as 8th grade with guidance including:
- Curriculum choices
- Test taking guidance and planning
- Summer opportunities
- Extracurricular enhancement
- Refinement of college choices
- Brainstorming and review of college essays and applications
- Interview preparation
- Deferral and waitlist strategies
I take particular pride in my accessibility. Parents and students can reach me easily, as needed, in addition to our regularly scheduled meetings to answer questions and create strategies that maximize students’ chances for admission.
I live in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida with my wife Andrea and our two dogs Bambino and Bernie, who are both named for New York Yankees’ greats. I can still work with you and your student, if you are Red Sox fans.
